What an HVAC UV light is designed to do
Residential HVAC UV-C systems expose a selected area inside compatible equipment to ultraviolet energy. Coil-focused installations aim at damp surfaces where ongoing irradiation may help manage microbial growth. In-duct treatment is a different application and depends heavily on intensity and exposure time.
Where placement matters
A lamp only affects what its light reaches. The evaporator-coil face, drain-pan area, cabinet geometry, wiring, access panels and UV-sensitive materials all affect placement. A glowing bulb is not proof that the useful target is receiving an appropriate dose.
What UV-C cannot replace
UV-C is not a filter and does not capture dust, hair or other particles. It does not remove heavy existing buildup, repair drainage, correct refrigerant problems or replace ventilation and humidity control. Cleaning may be appropriate before a new lamp is installed.

Ask which surface the lamp will target, whether the unit and nearby materials are compatible, how direct viewing is prevented, how electrical power is supplied, when lamp output should be checked and how replacement dates will be recorded.
